When pairing these devices with GoPro cameras, it’s imperative to get a product that matches your requirements. You can’t just buy one and hope that it works well with your device. Instead, you’ll have to look into brands and products that have proven track records.

Luckily for you, I experimented with a few of these products and found them quite useful. I’ll be documenting my experiences with them in short reviews below.

1. FY FEIYUTECH Feiyu G6

Feiyu G6 3-Axis Handheld Splashproof Gimbal for Gopro Hero 6 5 Sony RX0, WIFI Bluetooth Connection, Upgraded Algorithm, 12Hrs Runtime, OLED Screen, No Blocks in Visual, Trail Time-Lapse Photography

The Feiyu G6 is the successor to the already crowned king, the Feiyu G5. I found that the stabilization has been improved in this one along with the features that got, even more, user-friendly.

Whether you are a professional like me or a casual videographer, the G6 has a whole lot to offer you to take high-quality cinematic footage.

As I mentioned before, the G6has some new and improved features that truly take it a level higher than its predecessor. The g6 too has a splash-proof body and offers excellent rotation in almost any circumstances. Smooth motion is guaranteed that comes with solid build quality.

The OLED display interface and the button layout have gotten a few new changes in the Feiyu G6 and not to mention, it comes with a sliding arm. The new arm placement eliminates the possibilities of the arm getting in the way of certain angles of shooting.

I do appreciate this additional improvement quite a lot. Now I don’t have to worry about the Gimbal blocking the camera view any longer.

Being a 3-Axis product, you can expect all the functionalities that are usually present in a high-quality gimbal such as this. The maximum tilt and panning range is 360-degrees along with a rolling range of 320 degrees.

The super-smooth motion that this gimbal delivers is possible because of the higher torque motor that is built in this device.

There are several modes at your disposal to fulfill your shooting needs. The lock mode allows the camera to face a specific direction no matter where you move the item.

Steady shooting has never been this much fun! There is also the pan following mode, selfie mode, trail Time-lapse mode, and of course the ever-popular Panorama mode.

The battery capacity being 5000mAh the gimbal offers 12 hours of runtime with ease. Extended shooting is something we all need and this offers just that without any interruptions caused due to charging issues.

There is also a new and improved smartphone app that helps to control the features of the Feiyu G6 with ease.

This one is compatible with a large array of devices, so compatibility isn’t really a big issue. This is great for the GoPro lineup of devices and cameras like the Sony RXO as well. Plus, the Gimbal can be attached to tripods, extension poles or whichever external device is needed to ensure optimal recording.

I found all the features on the G6 to be very effective and handy; definitely a worthy upgrade!

FY FEIYUTECH Feiyu G6

What I Like

  • For me, image stability is up to the mark and is more than impressive.
  • The FEIUTECH’s Battery life is quite satisfying and it lasts long. 12 hours’ worth of juice is no joke.
  • You have state-of-the-art build quality and this thing is rubberized as well to prevent shocks.
  • Controls for this gimble are easy to grasp and use for any level of user.
  • Users will find this product to be of great price and value to them in the long run.

What I Don’t Like

  • Camera positioning and mounting can be better optimized if the makers take a look at things.
  • The wireless connectivity gets unstable at times. I found it hard to upload videos from hilltops.

2. Hohem iSteady Pro 2, 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer

3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer for GoPro Action Camera, Splash Proof Gimbal Tripod Stick for Gopro 2018 7/6/5/4, Sony RX0, SJCAM, YI-CAM - Time-Lapse, APP Control, 12h Run time -Hohem iSteady Pro 2

You might be thinking, the more you spend on your gimbal, the better performance you are going to get. Well, technically not… There are some devices out there that offer the best quality at an affordable price. The Hohem iSteady Pro 2, 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer is just one of them.

This incredible machine will let you record incredible videos with your GoPro with accurate stabilization. It offers not only stability, but a large number of shooting modes also come with it.

These shooting modes are not just fancy gimmicks, they are useful in a variety of situations.

The iSteady Pro is a one-piece design and it doesn’t require any kind of assembly. Just get it out, and use it as you see fit. The anti-shake performance that it had was just superb. I was able to capture videos with absolutely steady and smooth motion without any problems whatsoever.

The stabilization modes on the device utilize all three axes. Which means, it moves along three angles. The pitching and rolling angles are 320 degrees and the panning angle can go up to 640 degrees.

In each following mode, one or two axes remain locked so that you can take control of the other ones. Apart from the auto features, I was able to control everything with the joystick too.

I found the “Pan Following” mode, and the pan and tilt following mode to be quite useful. Not to mention there are also the "All Locked Mode" and the "All Following Mode" as well. This is versatility at its best indeed.

There is yet another advanced mode that allows you to focus and follow a particular object or person, which is undoubtedly helpful in capturing cinematic videos.

Battery backup is simply astounding as the ISteady Pro is equipped with a built-in18650 4000mAh 3.7V rechargeable battery. This allowed me to utilize the device for about 12 hours straight and personally, I was rather impressed with it.

This Gimbal is compatible with most action cameras including the GoPro Hero 6/5/4/3+/3, the Yi 4K, the AEE, the Sony RX0, and the SJCAM. Even the newer versions of the GoPro work just fine with this. So, there is no actual reason to worry about compatibility.

All thee amazing features make this device a great buy nonetheless. Not to mention the great value that it offers.

  • I found that battery life is rather impressive and long-lasting.
  • The gimble supports a lot of action cameras. If you own multiple devices, you won’t need one for each.

3. FeiyuTech WG2X 3-Axis Gimbal

FeiyuTech WG2X 3-Axis Gimbal for GoPro Hero 7/6/5/4/3 Wearable Stabilizer Bike Bicycle/Helmet/Car Mounting Gimble for Action Camera

The FeiyuTech WG2X 3-Axis Gimbal is by far one of the most popular Gimbals the company has produced so far. This thing is super handy and effective to use at that. This one is a genuinely worthy successor to the WG2, considering the useful upgrades.

Other than the minor setback from being waterproof to splash-proof, it has fairly improved with this new model. Now, it has an angled arm. This means, when you have it mounted on your chest, there will be no possibilities of obstruction whatsoever. It will deliver unhindered video capturing.

A shutter and mode button are added along with better image stabilization to provide the best GoPro experience.

This gimbal is designed to support all types of GoPro action cameras. Its compatibility list includes GoPro HERO7 (all models), HERO6, HERO5, HERO4 as well as HERO Session considering the session mount adapter is included.

Apart from GoPro cameras, it works great with the Sony RXO, SJCam and a lot of other action cameras. In other words, compatibility has not been an issue for me so far.

The design of this thing is just fabulous and not to mention, it has it all. Whether you want to mount it on your chest or tripod, shoulder or helmet… you just name it and you got it. It also has a 360-degree range in pan and tilt axes which makes maneuvering a lot of fore efficient and easy.

Plus, the Aluminum and ABS combo in the making makes it lighter. 27 grams to be exact.

Don’t worry. You’ll have total control over the features through the Feiyu App or by through the buttons on board. Feel free to fiddle with them at first. But, surfing trough modes is rather easy and fun with the new app I must say.

Speaking of modes, this device has quite a number of them. These include Pan and Follow mode, Following mode and lock mode. And to make things even handier, there is an LED indicator to tell you which mode you are using.

In various tests that I conducted, the WG2X excelled in stabilization features. The "Follow" speeds were highly responsive along with the noticeable improvements from the previous versions of the Gimbal. Decent pricing and no real notable flaws make this one of the best Gimbal for GoPro cameras out there.

This one is a must-buy for those who are looking for a seamless performance that comes with an affordable price. The WG2X has indeed achieved its popularity and rightful position in the wearable Gimbal hierarchy through impeccable quality.

FeiyuTech WG2X

What I Like

  • Great stabilization features are offered with this gimbal. Users won’t have to tweak it often.
  • I found it affordable compared to the benefit it offers me. Satisfied to the core.
  • The trigger button comes in quite handy whenever users need to experiment a bit.
  • Battery life is more than satisfactory for me. It comes handy during my adventure trips.
  • It is very much versatile when it comes to compatibility. Works with a heap of action cams.

What I Don’t Like

  • Build quality could have been improved. Some of you might find it too fragile for your likings.

4. GoPro Karma Grip for GoPro

GoPro Karma Grip for GoPro Hero7 Black/Hero6 Black/Hero5 Black (GoPro Official Accessory)

Now, let’s get into something that is made by GoPro, for the GoPro. The Karma Drone might not have exactly been a fan favorite, but this Gimbal certainly is.

Even though it was primarily intended to work with the drone itself, the Karma Grip has made its way within my list of best Gimbals out there on its own.

Let’s check out what this baby has to offer!

This baby has been in the market for quite some time now and is priced a bit on the higher side compared to its contemporaries. But aside from that fact, the Karma Grip is really easy to strap on to the GoPro and the stabilizer just latches on perfectly.

This is made even easier due to the HERO Harness lock system.

One thing I have to mention about this Gimbal is that it’s big nevertheless. Not only big in size but big in weight as well. Weighing around 580g its bulk and heft is rather formidable and might not suit the preference of everyone.

But… This device is efficient without a doubt.

I found the rubberized grip to compensate for the extra weight. Because I personally don’t mind a bit of weight as it makes it feel less flimsy. The thickness is bound to be appreciated by those who have a larger grip of hands.

As far as compatibility goes, this thing is very much of a perfect fit for all GoPro cameras. This is the best part about it and perhaps the worst as well.

Because this device is not compatible with other cameras. This means if you seem interested in this Gimbal, you should be a proud owner of a GoPro yourself.

This one is basically a ‘Pick Up and Start Recording’ type of Gimbal. The features are simple and the functionality is a piece of cake. This is, of course, done deliberately to make it more user-friendly.

Plus, the buttons used on this device do the explaining for themselves, nothing too complicated at all.

The Karma Grip does not feature a joystick or electronic control, which might actually be a very smart choice. As much as I am concerned, I don’t really find myself using a joystick while shooting videos.

No backward flips might make taking selfies a bit more difficult as you will have to rotate the gimbal the wrong way around.

Being a wearable Gimbal, it comes with 3 modes of shooting to choose from. This feature makes GoPro Karma an obvious choice for GoPro enthusiasts. The Karma Grip allows two whole hours of continuous 4k shooting and its awesome stabilization will certainly not let you down.

GoPro Karma Grip for GoPro

What I Like

  • I found that the build quality is solid. You won’t have to worry about fall damage or accidents.
  • The handle has a nice rubberized grip. People won’t slip up when holding the gimble with sweaty hands.
  • The button layout is simple and easy to use. Even a beginner would feel at ease with this object.
  • This thing is made for adventurers. It withstands all the shaking, twisting, and turning.
  • I found the stabilization settings to be quite impressive.

What I Don’t Like

  • This thing might be too heavy for some users. It’s my personal opinion.
  • It doesn’t have support for other cameras than the GoPro series.

5. EVO Gimbals EVO SS 3 Axis Wearable Gimbal

EVO Gimbals EVO SS 3 Axis Wearable Gimbal for GoPro Hero3, Hero4 or Hero5 Black, Session, Garmin Virb Ultra 30, YI 4K - 1 Year US Parts & Labor Warranty

The EVO SS GoPro is one of the most preferable gimbals for me so far. As far as wearable Gimbals go this one is efficient and loaded with features that actually count.

I liked the versatility that it offered in mounting, recording, and movement. These things make it user-friendly and of good value as well.

No matter what kind of mounting option you are looking for, this one has it all. It will fit nicely in 1/4″ tripod mounts as well as GoPro mounts without any trouble at all.

To make the deal even sweeter, it has an extendable pole that comes in very handy. Not only that, but it is portable and will fit in about any size of a backpack that people own.

The Bluetooth connectivity and a 3.5 mm AV output for external monitors is nothing to shrug off as well.

The Gimbal is small and lightweight which makes it great for helmet mounting which was not very doable with the Karma Grip. You can give it a 75-140g Payload and it won’t even matter for this awesome device. Which means, it is perfect for just about any sort of action camera.

You may also like:  10 Best External Hard Drives and SSD for Photographers in 2023

The "All Metal" body gives the EVO SS an awesome grip and hand feel. I personally have no complaints about the build quality whatsoever. Some design changes would have made a bit more difference the three working arms feel a bit fragile.

Other than that, all the included features are just amazing. Three brushless high-quality motors offer smooth functionality that you are bound to love.

You should know that there is an extra mounting bracket that you can request for delivery. The carrying pouch that comes with the package is large so you can put in some extra gear in it just in case you need it.

The battery life is quite promising. The EVO SS has two lithium batteries packed in it. These can deliver charge to your GoPro via an additional cable. How cool is that?

To top it off, it only takes 2-3 hours to fully charge it and after that, you are ready to go.

Connectivity is all covered by EVO on this one. This thing offers both Bluetooth and remote-control support. Not only that, but you can also tweak and utilize the features through the smartphone app that it has. All these perks will make video capturing and your life a lot easier.

FY FEIYUTECH Feiyu G6

What I Like

  • A great replacement for the Karma Grip if you can’t afford the said machine.
  • The handle grip is very good. People with sweaty hands won’t be at a disadvantage anymore.
  • This thing comes with solid build quality and innovative design to help satisfy all the users.
  • Evo gimbal comes with impressive charge capacity and is quick to charge.
  • The third-party app makes things a lot easier for people to use the entire system.

What I Don’t Like

  • I found the battery spring hard to deal with when setting the replacement battery up.
  • The power buttons are hard to reach after the camera is installed.

6. REMOVU S1 3-Axis Gimbal with Wireless Remote Control

Removu S1 Rainproof Wearable/Mount Anywhere 3-Axis Gimbal with Detachable Handgrip and Wireless Remote Control for All GoPro 3, 4, 5, 6 and Session Cameras - Black (RM-S1)

This Gimbal here is capable of mounting a GoPro anywhere from any angle. I was able to capture amazing sots that I never thought were possible with the Removu S1.

New, sleek, and well-engineered design keeps the device a stride ahead of the competition as it takes action camera utilization to a whole new level.

So, what does this thing has to offer?

Recording footage has never been easier from the angles I prefer with the considerably good stabilization technology and overwhelming hardware performance.

Camera positioning issues and image instability will become a thing of the past with this one. Not to mention that it comes with a wireless controller that allows all this goodness to be right at your fingertips.

This 3-axis gimbal has a wide range of compatibility and an array of mounting options that make things really effective and easy. You don’t really have to change your Gimbal every time you buy a new action camera. This one can go with almost every type of GoPro model there is.

Apart from a bit of configuration detail that you need to look into beforehand with the Hero 5 Black, you are good to go!

The only downside I found about this Gimbal Is that it follows mode is responsive, but a bit on the slow side and the motor is slightly audible. The noise might get annoying for a few, but it’s nothing too serious. This model is a bit on the heavy side with the super-solid build quality.

I was even able to remove the base of the grip and stow microSD cards. Which was really awesome indeed as this saves you from the possibility of losing these tiny chips.

Speaking of easy functionalities… the Pan, Follow or Locked modes make shooting a breeze. I was able to capture rock-steady footage without any issues at all.

The battery along with the Bluetooth remote control is removable for user convenience. Plus, you can also get a charging dock by ordering it and it will juice up in no time at all. It passed all the tests that actually matter to me in the long one. So, this is something I would definitely recommend.

REMOVU S1

What I Like

  • Removu’s gimbal is compatible with a large series of cameras. You won’t have to switch machines.
  • Stabilization when taking images and recording stuff is super smooth and does as it promises.
  • Pricing is very reasonable indeed. This is the best deal in terms of price vs. performance ratio.
  • The Gimbal is BacPac supported.
  • The remote control makes usage a lot easier. One doesn’t have to near the machine all the time.

What I Don’t Like

  • Performance falters overtime. To be honest, it happens with most gimbals after 3 – 5 years.
  • Some malfunctions are probable when batteries and the GoPro are properly not installed.

7. Zhiyun Smooth 4

Zhiyun Smooth 4 3-Axis Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer YouTube Video Vlog Tripod for iPhone 11 Pro Xs Max Xr X 8 Plus 7 6 SE Android Smartphone Samsung Galaxy Note10 S10 S9 S8 S7 Q2 Smooth-Q 2019 New Black

This thing does seem like a smartphone Gimbal at first but It does go with GoPro cameras too. The promising features that this one offers to make it one of the members in the list of best Gimbals for GoPro cameras.

Zhiyun being one of the largest manufacturers of gimbals out there, certainly doesn’t mess around. You’ll find out soon enough.

Camera shake is a common occurrence when you are trying to shoot videos. We all have faced it at some point in our shooting experience. Even with optimum image stabilization features, this issue is barely solved when you are in shaky situations.

This possibility of unstable capturing is totally eliminated with the Zhiyun Smooth 4 and its 3 axes gimbal stabilizer.

Three brushless motors that are installed in this device rotate three pivots that result in 3 axes pan, tilt and roll. These rotations occur in the opposite direction of the camera shake that results in really smooth and stable footage.

The accessories that come with the Smooth 4 are a charging cable and a tripod. Not much else is needed really to get things rolling. This one is a bit on the larger side, to be honest. But the build quality is solid nevertheless. The arm locks itself in position instantly when aligned with the Gimbal’s head. Handy, eh?

When mounted with a GoPro, some of the buttons might be rendered unusable but, this device still remains effective nevertheless. I had no real issue while filming with my GoPro connected with this device.

There are three shooting modes available in this Gimbal to be exact. Like the rest of them, it has the "Pan and Follow," "Following Mode," and the “Locked” mode.

But Zhiyun has put something a bit extra in this one. I also discovered the PhoneGo mode. It increases the motor speeds which is a great thing to have while moving in various directions quickly.

Whether you are planning to take single-shot photos, panoramas, timelapse or vertigo covers, this little machine has got your back with super smooth camera movement. All this becomes even more efficient with the FiLMiC Pro App. This third-party app unlocks the full potential of the gimbal itself.

I personally give the Zhiyun Smooth 4 two thumbs up as it is highly responsive, well-built and designed. The plastic constructed gimbal can prove to be a worthy adversary to many pro-grade devices out there.

Zhiyun Smooth 4

What I Like

  • Impressive image stabilization Is offered by Zhiyun so that people can take a lot of photos.
  • The motors are highly responsive and silent. You won’t even notice the camera at work at night.
  • Recording settings are changeable on the fly through controls. You can notice multiple effects.
  • I got a lot of video and photo shooting modes.
  • This thing is cool in design. This makes it slip and damage resistant.

What I Don’t Like

  • Not particularly made for handling action cameras.
  • Ergonomics could have been improved to make sure better gripping and handling.

You may also like:  10 Best Camera Sliders to Buy in 2023

Action cameras can and do shake often. So, while shooting with cameras like the GoPro, you would definitely need something to stabilize the footage other than the in-built image stabilization of the camera.

That’s exactly where the FeiyuTech G5 V2 comes in as an awesome alternative to the Karma Grip.

This one is a bit on the smaller side and it is also lightweight when compared to the Gimbals like the "Removu S1." It is compatible with a wide range of cameras from different brands.

Its battery is also user-replaceable. As I personally love versatility within my devices, I got to know and love this device as well.

Comfort is prioritized just in case you like a stronger grip over your Gimbal. The handle itself is rubberized to grant you full control without the possibility of slipping.

Not just that, the controls are also placed in a rather convenient position so that you are saved from the extra hassle. I personally found the multifunctional power button really useful to toggle between various tracking modes.

There’s a joystick just in case you need more control at your disposal.

If you love selfies, there is a dedicated feature just for that. The selfie button will flip the view as long as you keep holding it and you can easily control the angle with the joystick while you are at it.

A set of counterweights is also included just in case you go beyond the weight limit that it was originally designed for.

The device itself is rain protected. Why let a little downpour restrict you to go on memorable adventures? The controls on this Gimbal might be a bit advanced but it is rather simple to use. Just go through the manual and you will get a hang of it easily.

The regular shooting modes and video features that are present on the other gimbals are all present on the G5 as well. There is no need to worry about the features that you are used to.

The G5 can be charged via a micro USB cable and once it is fully charged you can expect a battery life up to eight hours. I don’t know about you but to me, that can cover a whole lot of shooting.

  • The controls are very easy to use and the buttons won’t give you any trouble while operating.
  • The G5 V2 is compatible with a number of cameras. You’ll not need another gimble.

What I Don’t Like

  • The travel pouch is small for my liking.

A Few Tips to Choose the Top Gimbal for your GoPro Action Cam

Gopro Karma Grip Gimbal

I have already laid out a list of Gimbals that I personally thought were the best amongst them all. Yet, as people go, they might have their own choices and preferences. That’s why I’ve designed this buying guide. These will tell you about the factors you need to keep in mind to make the most out of your research.

The User Matters

First of all, you have to think that what kind of a user are you? A casual day-to-day user won’t need a wearable gimbal that can be attached to your chest or head. Serious users, adventure junkies or travel bloggers will. So, yes… personal preferences do matter.

Take a second to think about what kind of photos you want to take with the Gimbal as well. The amount of workload you put on it will decide what quality of the product you need.

For example, if you are a diver and will need to swim into the deepest level of water, then you obviously need something waterproof. And if you are willing to do an accurate shooting for creating cinematic wonders, the criteria will obviously be different.

Your Gimbal and Camera Need to Work Together

I have seen a lot of users out there that suffer from compatibility issues. Just because the details say that it is “GoPro Compatible” doesn’t mean that it is made for your specific GoPro.

If you have a newer version of the camera, there is a possibility that an older model of a specific GoPro gimbal won’t attach to it properly.

When both the camera and the gimbal are in sync with each other, there is a high possibility of getting the best output possible. So, check the specs and be certain before you buy your device.

Control Features are Important

There are a bunch of ways nowadays to be able to get access to your Gimbal. Some of us prefer manual control and a button mapping that is easy to use. Like the "Karma Grip" has simple buttons that explain the functions themselves.

Then again, some might prefer a bit of wireless command. Bluetooth remote controllers are a common feature in Gimbals nowadays too.

There are third-party mobile apps as well. These can execute commands through the tap of your phone. But whichever the fact is, you have to choose what type of control you prefer for yourself and is it present in the gimbal you are going to buy or not?

Rotation and Stability Counts

The three axes must be covered by the gimbal you are looking to purchase. Otherwise, the stability won’t be as perfect as you want it to be. Gimbals are designed to move to the opposite side where the shake is taking the camera. So, 360-degree is a common rotation span for most gimbals.

Shooting modes matter in these cases. You have to check if all the shooting modes run smoothly to provide optimum performance. There are a lot of Gimbals that fall short in this aspect that results in unwanted instability.

The shakiness can also be reduced by a superior grip of the gimbal. Rubberized grips work great in these cases.

Motors are the Core

Makers use “Brushed” motors in gimbals these days. But the thing that you want to ensure above all else is that whether the motor is powerful enough or not.

The more power the motor has, the smoother the operation will be. Motors are at the heart of every gimbal and it is the base of all the features that it offers.

But there is a catch! Powerful motors are usually noisy. So, you have to find the perfect balance between the two. A noisy motor can affect the video as well. Often, loud noises get captured by the cameras and the buzzing sound can really ruin the experience.

Battery Life is an Issue

If your gimbal doesn’t provide a sufficient amount of action time it really is not worth it. There are gimbals out there that don’t last more than two hours straight. If you are okay with that, then there is no issue. I am just saying that there are devices that offer far more.

Charging your gimbal between shooting sessions can really be a bummer. But wait, there is a way to avoid this scenario. Look for replaceable battery options in the gimbal that you are looking to buy. If it has this feature, then you will easily be able to swap the batteries and get ready to go again.

My Two Cents at the End

This article on “Best Gimbal for Go Pro Cameras” has been rather long. I admit that. Yet, when it comes to Tech products, you can’t skip a beat (read: Feature or benefit). I did my best to cover it all. Also, you’ll find some of these products that’ll cut your costs to a certain degree as well.

If you want the best of these eight, go for Go Pro Karma Grip. This one is literally “The Best” when it comes to pairing with Hero series cameras from Go Pro. Everything from the controls to the standing pattern is well-defined. Even beginners will find it easy to handle. Pros will like the versatility it offers.

On the off chance that you don’t like any of these, make sure to check out the extensive buying guide of mine and follow the tips to find products that suit your needs.
